 What are Direct Refunds?

As standard, Protx do not allow Vendors to refund more than the original amount of a transaction placed via our VSP system. This controls the flow of funds and reduces the risk of over-refunding a card (by accident or maliciously).

Direct Refunds is the Protx option that allows you to refund any card for any amount. This means that you would be able to refund any card regardless of whether the original transaction was processed via Protx or not. This option is not given to all Vendors and must be sanctioned by the vendor's acquiring bank, in writing, before we will consider setting this up.

Direct Refunds will require the vendor to have the card number that they wish to refund. This means that you will need a secure environment to store the card details and be able to process Server-to-Server posts.

There is a set Protocol for the VSP Direct Refund option found in the VSP Server and Direct Shared Protocol (page 17). This is obtainable from our downloads section.
