The Transaction process: Authorisation & Settlement

There are two stages to every transaction: Authorisation and Settlement.

Authorisation: Authorisation is obtained from the banks the moment the card details have been either, forwarded to Protx’s systems or entered by the shopper on Protx’s secure payment pages. Once a transaction has been authorised, the shopper’s card is shadowed for the amount that the authorisation was obtained for. This means that for a certain period of time, those funds (transaction amount) are reserved and cannot be spent elsewhere by the shopper. For more information on bank shadows, please click here

Settlement: In order for you to obtain the funds i.e. to get them transferred into your bank account, Protx sends a batch settlement file to your acquiring bank on a daily basis. This includes all authorisation codes obtained over the last 24 hours. For more information on the Bank settlement process, please click here

 Additional Transaction types (TxTypes)

Protx offer a number of additional methods of registering a transaction and completing the payment. These are different from the standard real-time payment option, which simply authorises and settles automatically within 24 hours. The real-time payment option is set up on your Protx account as the default method.

Please choose one of the following transaction type options below, clicking the button of the transaction type that you would like further information on.

N.B. If you wish to use any of the additional payment/transaction types (other than Refund/Void), then you will need to ensure that it has been set up on your Protx
account before you can use it.

Protx now offers PayPal Express Checkout as an additional payment method for taking payments online. This integration is only available for use with the Protx Payment pages and therefore can only be used by VSP Form and VSP Server vendors. No additional integration is required and no additional merchant numbers are needed in order to start using this service. All you will need is a PayPal Business account.

Please note that you can process transactions through PayPal using the Deferred / Release payment registration method or the Authenticate / Authorise payment method (N.B. Authenticate transactions will only ever be REGISTERED as the transaction will not be 3D authenticated).

You can also refund any PayPal transactions but you cannot VOID or perform a REPEAT transaction on them.

Please click the button below for more information on this payment method and instructions on how to set up.
