Shopper redirected to Protx Payment Page and Authorisation: Step 3

Quick Links:

Shopper enters card details and Bank Authorisation occurs

Providing that the data has been posted to Protx in a format that conforms correctly to the VSP Form Protocol, the transaction will be registered by the Protx system before the shopper is redirected to the payment pages.

The shopper is now presented with the payment where it is requesting their credit/debit card details. The details will be entered into the payment page and sent to the bank for authorization. This page will also show your company logo (unless you are using customised templates) and description of the items purchased. Depending upon whether you have 3D Secure set up on your Protx account and whether the customer's card is registered on the 3D Secure Scheme, they may be redirected to the Verified by Visa/MasterCard Secure Code web page for verification before authorisation is obtained from the bank.

Error Messages

There are a number of Error messages that can occur before your Customer has been re-directed to our payment pages. These are usually caused by the fact that the integration has not followed our Integration guidelines correctly e.g. one of the Mandatory crypt fields has not been passed through, or maybe sending fields through that have incorrect values or are incorrectly formatted. For a detailed guide as to the error messages that you can receive please refer to our troubleshooting section.

Custom Templates

We provide all of our VSP Form and VSP Server vendors with default Payment Pages; however we also provide them with the facility to customise these pages so that the look and feel of the Payment pages is similar to the Vendor's website. The key benefit to this is that it gives the customer the impression that they have not left the vendor's website. Please refer to our custom templates section

Time Outs

A transaction "session" lasts 15 minutes from the point of entering the Protx payment pages. If the transaction is not completed within this time frame then the VSP system "times out" the transaction. The following shopper actions may cause such a situation:

  •  If a shopper closes the browser whilst on the payment pages.

  •  If a shopper presses the "back" button to return to the vendor site and does not return to the payment page.

  •  If a shopper opens a new browser window to surf the internet (maybe to compare prices) and leaves the Protx page idle.

  •  If a shopper simply leaves their computer with the Protx page open and idle.

 Responses from Bank:

Once confirmed the Acquiring bank sends the Authorisation or Decline back to the Protx system in the form of an "APPROVED" or "DECLINED" response. They also provide us with the results of the AVS/CV2 checks that they have carried out.

N.B. Protx are only as good as the information the Acquiring banks provide us with, if a Card is declined, we are not informed as to the reason why. This also goes for the AVS/CV2 checks, Protx do not check this information, we only provide you the Bank's results.

If the Protx system receives anything other that "AUTHORISED" from the Acquiring bank, then we will re-direct your Customers over to your Failure URL with a status and other transaction information.

You can also receive back from Protx a status of NOTAUTHED or REJECTED which would happen after the transaction has gone to the bank for authorisation, In the case of NOTAUTHED, the Transaction has completed through the VSP System, but it has not been authorised by the bank and a status of REJECTED means the bank may have authorised the transaction but your own rulebase for AVS/CV2 or 3D-Secure caused the transaction to be rejected.

An "OK" response will be the only time your customer is redirected back to your Success URL. Any other response and our system will redirect them to your Failure URL.
